The
WIAF Clothes Connection

Robin
Anderson
June, 2002, completed the fourth year of WIAF's Clothes Connection. During
this period more than 70 women were helped as WIAF raised more that $3000
for women who needed that extra little bit of help to get back into
the work force. Through this program, these women were able to
acquire the clothing that they needed for a job search and initial
interview.
The program was originally created by the Women In Action Foundation in
cooperation with Spanky's and the Vancouver Housing Authority.
The Clothes Connection works like this:
WIA members bring up to 10 articles of children's, men's or
women's new and like-new clothing to a WIA meeting.
The clothes must be clean and currently in season. Dropping clothing
off at one of the two Spanky's locations, is acceptable too.
You do not need to wait for the clothing to be sorted.
A receipt can be mailed to your home, if you provide a self addressed
stamped envelope when you drop off the clothing. When the clothing
sells, the money is placed in a WIAF account. It is then converted through
the WIA Foundation and The Vancouver Housing Authority into Spanky's
Gift Certificates. These Gift Certificates are awarded to women
needing clothes for their job search and interview.
If you choose to take your clothes directly to Spanky's just let the
Spanky's outlet know that the clothes
are for the WIAF Clothing Connection and Spanky's/ WIAF will handle the
rest. Spanky's
has two locations: |
