WOMEN IN ACTION

WIA is a diverse group committed to nurturing the personal, professional, social and civic growth in Southwest Washington, supported by the fundraising efforts of the not-for-profit Women In Action Foundation.

Women In Action draws individuals from all backgrounds and, within a supportive environment, empowers women to personally and collectively influence the future of the community. Our purpose is to celebrate contacts that assist women in meeting their goals; create volunteer opportunities to support women and children; facilitate the placement of women on decision making bodies in the community; recognize the benefits of diversity.   Men are welcome.

The WIA Foundation

  •  Founded in 1991, the Women in Action Foundation (WIAF) raises funds to further its community giving and to build its permanent endowment. Through these actions, WIAF is able to fund grants to worthy programs, such as WIA Mentoring and other programs that promote the well-being of women and children in our community. Women In Action Foundation provides grants to worthy projects/programs that benefit women and children in Southwest Washington. WIAF is dedicated to educating women about philanthropy and encourages the advancement and full participation of women in our community. Contact: 360-418-6888 or mail to PO Box 61662 Vancouver, WA 98661

Mentoring Program

  •  Young Women In Action is a twelve-week mentoring program based in several schools in Clark County. Members of Women In Action serve as mentors and role models for fifth grade girls. Five mentors meet with approximately twenty-five girls at each school for two hours each week during the spring. A curriculum for each session guides mentors, so even those participating for the first time feel comfortable. No experience is necessary. While the primary goal is to build the girls' self-esteem as they transition from elementary school to middle school, mentors report gaining a better understanding of the world of fifth grade girls today.
    And it's fun!

ATHENA Award

  •  The ATHENA Award is a nationwide program designed to honor women who strive toward their highest level of accomplishment and leadership, not only excelling in their chosen fields, but also creating paths so that others may follow. Locally, the ATHENA Award is presented by Women In Action and the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce. This is the eighth year that WIA has been part of this wonderful program. We are extremely proud of the fact that most of the award recipients were also WIA members.

Mary Granger Climate of Excellence Award

  •  The Mary Granger Climate of Excellence Award celebrates an honoree who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in our community in the area of arts, culture or heritage.

WIA Clothes Connection

  •  This great program helps women reentering the work force to acquire the clothes that are needed for their job search. The Cloths connections is a program created by the Women In Action Foundation in cooperation with Spanky's and the Vancouver Housing Authority.
